“This goes along with a general trend in public health to abandon science whenever you see a result that confirms your prejudices,” says Stier. “Obviously, Alzheimer’s disease is nothing to joke about, but this is an observational study based on dietary recall among people who have Alzheimer’s disease! But reporters and public health groups are generally unwilling to skeptically scrutinize a study that promotes eating fruits and vegetables. Can you imagine how many critics there would be lined up to ridicule this if it said that a diet with lots of beef and fat reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s?”
